Let's all be random, shall we?

On General Socialization

Vancouver!

Has weather that is a lot nicer than what I left behind.

It’s a pleasant 24 degrees here and where I used to be, it was like, 42 and insane humidity. Ugh.

And then there’s the hail and the thunderstorms.

I’ve been here for around, what, 2 hours now? the sun is finally going down and I kinda wanna frolic around outside. Honestly, I’m going to go onto a twelve hour flight, and I’m not sure if I wanna pass up this chance to run around =w=

Well, bai~ I’m gone for the next 45 days, tata!

I’ve Heard

From reliable sources that literally all of the social media platforms I use are inaccessible in China.

Fun, no?

It means that I don’t get to do my short lived dream of doing travel blogging. Not such a sad loss, since then I’ll get time to compile everything and edit what I wrote on each day once I get back on August 14th.

Thus, Maya is disappearing into the strange place that is China for a month and a half. I’ll be departing my home city in around twelve hours, and Leaving Canada in around seventeen. I’m sure Vancouver would be still interesting enough to poke an entry in c:

Have I Told You All?

That I’m literally attached by the ear to Tumblr? There is just such a ridiculous amount of deadpan humour and unexpected intelligence that I can’t help but enjoy it to to a point where I’m pretty sure it’s unhealthy.

Do I care? No~! Of course not!

Join me and see a slightly more awkward side on As It Goes

The Liebster Award

Wow, with my year of inactivity, I’ve basically abandoned all hope of interacting with anyone anymore on WP. dear Brittany has nominated me, and thus I’m obliged to do this. (And get back into the blogging spirit!)

Since Tumblr doesn’t really count as a blog now does it :I

Of course with these types of awards there are rules.

  1. List 11 random facts about yourself.
  2. Answer the questions designated by the blogger(s) who nominated you.
  3. Place YOUR nominations for the Liebster Award! Nominate five (or more) other bloggers that have less than 200 followers. Make sure to notify them.
  4. Make up a set of questions for those nominated bloggers to answer.
  5. Display the Liebster Award badge on your blog!

Thus, I begin with random facts :>

  1. I have a real issue with sleeping. I mean, I adore the activity, but I just don’t get enough of it. For the last couple months at least, a full 8 hours of sleep is indeed, just a distant dream.
  2. My eyesight is getting worse. And they’re already bad beyond comprehension. (-10 and -8.5 respectively) Legal blindness isn’t far off. Much to my dismay.
  3. always regret it when I get my hair cut/permed/anything else that I’ve done to it. Generally, I regret it till my hair grows out again to mid back. (At which point I start to contemplate getting it done, and this whole fiasco starts over again.)
  4. I’m the sort of person who has to fake emotions. No, seriously. I have a hard time feeling anything when generally people would have an emotional response. It’s sorta all about looking at the reactions around me I guess- and I’ve gotten good at this.
  5. On a similar sentiment, I’m also the type of person who you will never trust again if you’ve cooperated with me in a lie of epic proportions. No, I will not be sharing why, I still want trust from you ignora- I mean, the uninitiated. *Awkward cough*
  6. (Taking some inspiration from Brittany) I can sleep though a lot of random crap. Just on Wednesday, I slept though a thunderstorm which was followed by hail, which came with the tornado that passed within 500 meters of my house. I’m 84% sure that deserves some sort of award. (No worries though, it didn’t really land near here.)
  7. I am literally never on time. I would think about leaving for someplace almost an hour in advance, and somehow still end up five minutes late to wherever I need to be.
  8. Guren no Yumiya is stuck in my head. And I am setting the damn song to everything. Seriously, it’s too dramatic for anything, but it fits everything. No, really, play it on the bus and you will find it fitting.
  9. I can’t sing, but I sure seem to enjoy pretending I can!
  10. I automatically love anything green tea or strawberry flavored, even though they don’t seem all that popular :c
  11. Screw that, I just really like tea, though a friend of mine strongly regretted going to the tea tasting with me .-.

Questions!

1) What was your very first blog post about?

Believe it or not, it was a pretty lame post that was on a friend’s blog about a recent development in Inuyasha. I totally have no clue which chapter it was for though… Needless to say, the blog was collectively deleted last year when my friend and I had a good laugh at our own expense.

2) How would you describe yourself?

Oh dear, it’s one of those questions that make me question everything I know and have a twenty minute head scratching marathon.

I’m going to need to go with a list of adjectives for this one.

Strange, humourous, intelligent, selfish, fair, needlessly cruel, consciously insensitive, creative, lazy, arrogant while being insecure, easily frustrated, vengeful, and apathetic.

Hmm… That’s more accurate than I’d care to admit, actually.

3) Favorite genre of music?

Dammit, this is pretty difficult. I tend to go for classical and soothing/depressing ballads more though. (I still much enjoy upbeat songs though.)
4) Least favorite thing to do?

Arguing with people that don’t see reason as a result of their own willful ignorance.

Seriously, ignorance is one thing, but willful ignorance? No.

I see the futility of continuing to talk to them, but at the same time, there’s a irritation that would linger because whoever I was talking to is still an egotistical little crap that is wallowing in misinformation.
5) Something you are looking forward to doing this year?

That’s easy!

Going to China! I haven’t been back for a decade, which is double the amount of time I spent there. Not sure what to expect, but the way people are talking, I probably shouldn’t be anticipating the trip this much .-.

Questions of My Own:

1) Which types of characters do you like?

2) Why do you like your favorite colour?

3) Why did you start to blog?

4) Do you draw? What types of things do you/would like to draw?

5) What’s an excellent pun?

N.O.M.I.N.A.T.I.O.N.S. !

Amy– TWIN! I will drag you into this!

NinjoZata– I’m pretty sure she has a new blog now, but I can’t track down the proper URL :I

I actually have three more people in mind but I really have no clue if they even exist anymore vAv

One year is a long time :c

Fanfiction Peeves

Because I need to collect these and express them in a more effective way than ranting at a quickly flattening can of cream soda.

1) Lying Reviewers

When a really bad fic has a completely disproportionate review count. Especially when they’re all positive. >:C

2) Terrible Capitalization

Why are your “I”s dotted? I was certain that was a period. Why is there some convoluted geometric sequence in the seemingly random capitalization?

3) Emoticons

What are you doing. It is proper writing, not chatting on skype. If you can’t describe ^w^ properly, that should tell you something.

4) RP A/Ns

Stop talking to your characters, especially in the terrible script RP format so often applied.

Aurua: What, but I thought you liked talking to me? WHY ARE YOU SO MEAN? QQ

Maya: Holy shit, all the OOC. Hold up… I’m speaking to a figment of my imagination. *runs off sadly*

Maya: *comes back* Aurua, move to the next one. *rushes off again*

5) Self Insertion

There are some fandoms utterly plagued by this for no reason at all. Most of the time, it’s some sassy modern minded female that has the same skillset as the characters.

Of course, there is no alteration to the storyline, nor relationships.

6) POV Hopping

WHO THE FLYING FU-

I mean, how do we get a emotional attachment to a character if you’re interrupting flow every 200 words to POV change?

6) Herding Sues

Because, apparently, if everyone’s a Sue, no one is!

This only works in certain settings, and most often, this is not done well. (We all know I love a good curb stomp battle, and generally OP and Godmoding from characters. I love them.)

7) Bolded Paragraphs

Just… No.

It burns my retinas (or what is left)

8) Text Walls

I can’t figure out where the next line starts by the time I’m 120 words in. Just unable to get through it.

Bonus tears if used in junction with 7.

9) Rebellious Attire

NO ONE. NO. ONE. WEARS BLACK CARGO PANTS WITH CHAINS HANGING FROM THEM, TRENCH COAT WITH LARGE BUCKLES, CHOKER, AND GOTHIC MOTIF T-SHIRTS AND STILL WALK AROUND A TRAIN STATION.

Oh my god, who does that except for the intellectually unsound?

10) Arbitrary Foreign Language

I once witnessed a fanfic set in reality AU (aka, Hunter X Hunter verse) where a tribal people used Japanese honorifics.

And injection of Japanese (and others, but my fandoms are anime ._.) into English speech when it is understood they are speaking in native tongue when English is used.

I’m not against using random languages in fics. After all, I’m totally in love with a vampire who swears up a storm in Romanian and no one understands anything he says when he does.

11) Misusage Overdose

I saw some pretty terrible uses of “vis a vis”.

T’was accentuated by it’s application seven times in 8000 words.

12) Obscurity Overdose

“Akimbo”

I saw this used properly, but way too much. It’s too uncommon a word to use so much. Geez. Twice in a paragraph is horrifying.

13) Thought Indicators

/THIS INDICATES THOUGHT/

\THIS INDICATES MY DISPLEASURE\

|THIS INDICATES FLOW DISRUPTION|

14) Misfitted Naming

Because in ancient China, who the flying flip names their child Alexis?

And, “Alexis” was related to canon, Liujing named characters.

15) Word Dye

Bluenette is not a word.

Nor is pinkette.

16) Misleading Summary

The summary, beautiful grammar, passable syntax, interesting plot.

BAM!

The actual writing quality is so much worse.

17) Uninformative Summary

“Read and find out”

No.

18) Ready-Made Outfit/Ready-Made Outfit, With Sharpies

Her clothing looked just like ________!

Her clothing looked just like ________ but blue and a little ripped at the ends!

It’s like a template they’re getting this shit from.

19) Bashing

Don’t do it obviously, anyway.

Besides, 90% of the time, the descriptions of the the bashed character are just narrow minded conceptions by the author and are generally false or unproven.

I’d just kill them off quietly in a corner. They don’t deserve screen time anyway.

20) Terrible Usernames

I think BrokenDemonessAngel speaks for itself. If not, I will give you a lengthy paragraph on the shortcomings.

21) Egoless Summary

They claim to be bad at summaries, what is to stop them from being bad at other things?

And saying “first fanfic!” makes it seem like you’re a noob, rather than a newbie.

And just claiming that it’s not that good, how is it worth my time if you don’t believe in it?

22) Naturally Occurring Wigs/ Contacts

Shifting colours is not allowed.

Shades? Fine. Tones? Where applicable. Hues? In the same family.

Colours?

HELL. NO.

Special Mention to:

~ Outgrowing Fanfics

I remember loving a fanfiction, and loving it. Something that sailed a ship or dragged me into a fandom, or that one story that had me addicted to fanfiction.

And here I am, feeling old, and wanting to make myself feel all sentimental and nostalgic when suddenly, I realize that I can barely read the piece anymore. I’m finding flaws in the grammar, in prose, in plot. It all was so much more beautifully worded in my head.

So, feeling even older, I click the back button.

This shall be supplemented by subsequent posts as I come up with more irritants.

Stupidity…

Of people posting advice on the internet. I was searching around for a high school supply list (apparently, the US starts high school in grade 9. Where did the missing year come from? Are there only 2 years of junior high or something?)

Why are 10 pack markers recommended by people? You need them in ninth grade, you’re probably in art, and those need the 43-colour-brush-pen calibre “markers”. Pencil crayons for map assignments, perhaps, but usually you can pull that off with five colours (which I used pen for, since an outline style of colouring is acceptable).

And a graphing calculator.

Bitch, you don’t need a graphing calculator till grade 10 (When high school starts in Canada). I find it hilarious that the person who suggested this couldn’t spell, at all. And grammar was tortured and spat out.

Anyway, that’s not the inspiration for the post, since lots of people on yahoo answers are routinely retarded.

But this legit looking site was being stupid beyond belief.

“Eliminate the guesswork by getting a list from your child’s teacher ahead of time or waiting until school starts to find out what’s actually required”

NO.

Just no.

Horrible idea. Besides, a high school student should be plenty aware of what they need. And God, here, High schools don’t even provide lists anymore, and dammit, you are NOT going to bother a teacher just because your brain is incompetent.

And, crafts? In high school? What?

RP- Alius Extrarium.

Pay no mind, I’m just posting here so I can find this on my other computer xD

(This RP is being made as aliusxtrarium.proboards.com)

I will be uploading logos for the two organizations soon. Taking a while because I take care of my brainchildren.

There has been a break out.

Not an ordinary break out. A prisoner at FoSNIR (fos-neer) – Facility of Supernatural Investigation and Research, the biggest underground worldwide organisation – has escaped.

My Lost Dream, or Inhabitant 065, was until now a pretty docile person. Now she is on the run, looking for a safe haven to live in peace, free from the awful tests and experiments that she had been forced to endure.

The supernatural beings have given themselves a name, like humans call themselves, well, humans. They are called Alius. Every Alia is different, possessing different abilities, and all of them unique. They can be anything from werewolves and vampires to angels and dragons. Some are even human themselves, but have obtained powers through some kind of event in their lives or from birth; for example, magicians.

No Aliai has ever escaped from FoSNIR. Not in the entire history of the facility, though no humans know about the place to really care. Their security is so tight, that it is a miracle that the prisoners are allowed time alone. Security cameras are everywhere and no inhabitant is allowed to go anywhere without the proper equipment and an escort. It is virtually impossible to break out of those white, sterile rooms. The human leaders of the facility are convinced that they hold every supernatural within the bleach walls of FoSNIR, and have sequestered themselves in secrecy, conducting research.

But they were wrong in that belief. There stands another superpower, AlIS; a company on the cutting edge of medical technology and treatment. Vasiria Northright, the woman who stands at the pinnacle of this organization, created the medicine of the future, with money of past generations.

This, of course, was a farce. For in truth, Vasiria is a six century old human, using the wealth she hoarded over the years to help create a sanctuary for the Aliai who are content to live in peace, but something is brewing, and everyone can feel the precarious tremor of discord beneath the wash of silence. The Aliai International Society is a long standing, passive alliance, seemingly focused on protection and secrecy to anyone not within the inner circles of the company. They will track down renegades and capture them, training and preparing them for an uncertain future.

AlIS is unsure of FoSNIR’s intentions, though they are certain it is not simply research. They have tried to scout the facility, but to no avail. The security on the place is too tight and if they tried any harder, they risk exposure, the one thing they want least of all. So, they waited.

Then My Lost Dream escaped.

This caused all sorts of uproar within the society. Was she stable? Did she have answers about FoSNIR? Would she expose them? Well, from the way she ran, she left behind a rather noticeable trail of terrified people. She has to be brought under control.

There are three types of character you can be:

•Human scientist
•Alius within AlIS
•Alius with no alliance

No other type of character is allowed. No power-less humans in AlIS and no Alius within FoSNIR. Alius that are free to do as they please, can be living as a human (those that can do this. Characters that are centaurs and species that definitely does not look human and can’t pass as one live elsewhere, away from humans.)

Any questions on AlIS, talk to AmayaYume. Any questions about FoSNIR or anything else, ask LazuliLupin. (If you are unsure about powers, ask.) But, either of us will answer of we are able.

RP storyline ©LazuliLupin and AmayaYume 2012

Rules: Please Read!

•No god-moding

•No controlling others characters

•No more than two powers. If you are a were-creature, shifting into your other form is not a power. Retaining your heightened senses while human is. Being a shifter also is, one animal for each power. (i.e. 2 animals max)

•You cannot be any other character type. Only the three mentioned; Human scientist, Alius within AlIS and Alius with no alliance. No power-less humans in AlIS and no Alius within FoSNIR. (There may be more character types as the story goes on.)

•This is an ADVANCED RP. No one line posts. (Unless engaged in battle and longer is unnecessary)

•Use proper English, not several lines of one word sentences

•Use speech marks, “ ”, for speech.

•Use these, { }, for thoughts sent to others. (This is regarded as a power, which might make it a one way system of communication)

•Use arrows, > <, for private thoughts.

•Use stars, * *, for the rest of your narrative

•Use brackets, ( ), for out of character chat.

•Only one person has escaped from FoSNIR and that is LazuliLupin’s character. All other characters cannot have been imprisoned there, but can have heard of it.

•Only one person is leader of AlIS and that is AmayaYume’s character. All others within AlIS are below her, so ask her about your rank in AlIS if you want one. Otherwise, you will simply be a foot soldier type of rank with no importance.

•Note, however, if you wish to take Shizuka or Lucien, have an extensive talk with me. Same goes for if you wish to have characters related to them.

•If you are a scientist, you cannot have any powers, otherwise it defeats the point. If they had powers, they would have imprisoned all scientists who did. They may have skills, however, though related to their particular line of profession (e.g. a neurologist can be very good at telling which part of the brain is activated by what, scientist studying super strength building robotics for themselves. )

•Powers are to be related to each other and the characters past. This makes characters more legitimate. (E.g. lightning power and super speed) Also, think about how the powers are possible. This keeps it slightly realistic.

•Fights and combat are hard to control. Please don’t start blocking attacks all the time and shape-shifting constantly, etc. It makes the fight unrealistic and hard to follow/reply to.

•Powers cannot be too powerful. There must be a weakness somewhere, like hard to control or limits of some kind. Otherwise, characters would be too powerful and that wouldn’t be fair.

Character Sheet:
